On March 12, 2026, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in its role as the Executive Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Network on Atmospheric Pollution for Latin America and the Caribbean, with the support of the Clean Air Institute, successfully hosted the webinar for the launch of the new “Comprehensive Guide for Emission Reduction in Priority Industrial Sectors of Latin America and the Caribbean.”
The primary objective of this technical meeting was to provide decision-makers and specialists with a compilation of strategic tools to strengthen industrial emission control and accelerate the transition toward low-carbon economies in the region.
A Framework for Regional Collaboration
The guide is the result of a coordinated effort within the framework of the 2022-2025 Regional Action Plan on Air Quality. Funded by UNEP and developed by the professional team at the Clean Air Institute, this tool seeks to support the consolidation or updating of instruments that promote cleaner production processes, focusing on sectors with the highest contribution of criteria pollutants and greenhouse gases (GHG).
Key Session Highlights:
Structure and Strategic Vision: Karen Blanco, specialist in emission inventories and modeling, detailed the architecture of the guide and the fundamental components for creating or updating programmatic initiatives aimed at critical industrial sectors.
Control Technologies: Alberto Cruzado, expert in industrial emissions, presented the most robust technologies for air pollutant control, complementing the theory with a practical exercise on selecting dust collection systems.
The webinar highlighted the importance of harmonizing public policies with technical best practices to achieve a real and measurable impact on the air quality of our cities.
