Session held on October 16, 2025

ree

The industrial sector is one of the most significant emission sources in Latin America, a fact recognized in the current Regional Air Quality Action Plan for Latin America and the Caribbean, which is managed by the Intergovernmental Network on Atmospheric Pollution.

Therefore, Activity 2.2 envisioned in this instrument seeks to provide methodological guidance and disseminate best practices related to the use of new technologies for the measurement, surveillance, and characterization of industrial sector emissions. This webinar, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean with the support of the Clean Air Institute, specifically aims to fulfill this activity outlined in the regional cooperation instrument.

The webinar aimed to:

  • Discuss key methodologies, technologies, and best practices for the measurement, monitoring, and characterization of industrial sector emissions.

  • Understand effective approaches for surveillance and regulatory compliance, and their contribution to stronger air quality management and regulatory frameworks.

The session was open to the public and was attended by representatives from national and subnational public bodies, private sector, non-governmental organizations, international agencies, and universities from 23 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean. The event was conducted in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation into English.
