Between November 24 and 26, 2025, the webinar "Strengthening Air Quality Legislation and Governance" was held, coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and supported by the Clean Air Institute.
The main objective of this event was to exchange valuable information and strengthen capacities in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to harmonize air quality legislation with human rights standards, regional commitments, and international best practices.
🌐 November 24 Session: Caribbean Focus (in English)
This session focused on the Caribbean countries and featured the participation of key experts:
Renee Gift (UNEP Law Division) presented a summary of the UNEP Air Quality Legislation Guide, an essential tool for the comprehensive development or update of regulations.
Treina Dinoo (Environmental Management Authority - EMA of Trinidad and Tobago) shared the national efforts, legislative approaches, and experiences in promoting air quality management.
🌎 November 26 Session: Latin America Focus (in Spanish)
The session for Latin America brought together various professionals, with the following speakers:
Catalina Pizarro (UNEP) described the organization's work in institutional coordination and technical support for legislative development in LAC, including the presentation of the Air Quality Legislation Guide in Spanish.
Ana Lucía Alfaro (Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Guatemala) and Salvador Nieto (international consultant) detailed the experiences, progress, and the technical perspective on the legislative and institutional processes for air quality management currently underway in Guatemala.
The sessions were moderated by professionals from the Clean Air Institute, who have significantly supported many of the advances presented by the countries in the region.
