The Clean Air Institute participated in this study, which characterized volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other pollutant emissions (methane, black carbon, and others) from Mexican oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as identifying opportunities and requirements for reducing them. Activities included:

1) Characterizing emissions from offshore oil and gas platforms,

2) Analyzing emission control opportunities, and

3) Preparing a report and disseminating results.

Regarding the latter, the results of this study were widely disseminated among key stakeholders from government, the private sector, and civil society, as well as the media, and as a result, laid the groundwork for the preparation of regulations on the subject.
